Onset of Indian Northeast Monsoon and the associated movement of Equatorial Trough Cloud Zone over Bay of Bengal
About the Speaker:
Dr Y.E.A.Raj took his Master’s degree in Mathematics from University of Madurai in 1975 and obtained his PhD degree in Mathematics from IIT Madras in 1980. He joined India Meteorological Department as a Meteorologist Gr II in 1980, served in IMD, Pune during 1980-91 and then at Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai for more than 22 years. He held the post of Head, RMC Chennai during 2009-2014 and retired in March 2014. Dr. Raj has published more than 60 papers in Meteorology in accredited journals and has authored several reports and publications. He has delivered numerous talks and lectures in symposia and seminars, reviewed several research papers and was involved in holding large number of seminars and meets, served as a member in various committees. His research interests are: Indian Northeast Monsoon, Tropical Cyclones, Statistical and Mathematical applications in Meteorology and other related fields. Dr. Raj has guided a few students towards PhD in Meteorology. He won the IMS award in 1995 and the SAARC award for young scientists in 1996. He served as an International expert in the WMO ESCAP panel during 2014-15 and as a Meteorological Expert during 2016–20 in the project on ‘Real Time Flood Forecast for Chennai City’ initiated by the Tamil Nadu Government He is widely travelled and has visited nearly 40 countries.
