Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General, India Meteorological Department and Mr. Indramani Pandey, PR of India to the UN, congratulate Prof. Celeste Saulo from Argentina on her election as Secretary General, WMO.

Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General India Meteorological Department signed an MoU with Prof. Petteri Taalas, Secretary General World Meteorological Organization at WMO UNHQ for the hosting of WMO Regional Training Centre with IMD as coordinator.

Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, DG, IMD and Permanent Representative of India to WMO made a statement in a discussion on Hydrological Systematic Observation and Services (HydroSOS) today the 27th May 2023. He highlighted the role of soil moisture in agricultural practices, flash flood guidance and prediction of severe weather like rainfall and thunderstorm. He presented the tool and product developed by Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru in collaboration with India Meteorological Department for monitoring of soil moisture and it's prediction for various uses, especially for agriculture.

Dr. M. Mohapatra DG IMD and PR of INDIA with WMO made an intervention during the discussion on Early Warning for all (EW4All) in the WMO Congress today, the 26th May 2023. He informed the house about India's support for early warning for all initiatives by WMO and UN. India will act as Peer Advisor for implementation of systematic observation and forecasting facility in least developing countries and small island states for augmentation of meteorological observation network.

Dr M. Mohapatra, DG, IMD and PR of India to WMO received the certificate from President of WMO in a ceremony organised during WMO Congress on 24th May 2023. Heartiest congratulations to serving and retired colleagues of IMD, Dwarka, Veraval and Cuttack.

WMO recognised three IMD observatories, viz., Dwarka, Veraval in Gujarat and Cuttack in Odisha as long term observing stations for more than 100 years of hydrological observations.

Google team headed by its vice president held a meeting with Indian delegation led by Dr. M. Mohapatra DG IMD in Geneva in the sidelines of WMO Congress for possible extension of cooperation between Google and India Meteorological Department for extension of weather services in the region. It is needless to mention that Google works with IMD for extending the cyclone and advisory services in the region and it's working for development of nowcast technique for prediction of location specific rainfall.

Director general and Permanent representative of India with WMO attending the WMO CG-19 in Geneva. DG IMD made a statement on Global Basic Observation Network (GBON) and Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF).

DGM recommended specific provisions for improvement in observation network in least developed countries and small island nations. India is also committed to act as pure advisor for implementation of SOFF for benefit of these countries.
