As a part of celebration of 150th Foundation Day of the India Meteorological Department (IMD)

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is celebrating a remarkable milestone in 2024-2025, marking 150 years as the principal government agency for meteorology and related fields. To commemorate this momentous occasion, the IMD has organized a series of events throughout the year, culminating in a grand 150th Foundation Day Celebration on January 15, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This event will celebrate IMD's invaluable contributions to weather forecasting, meteorological research, and disaster management.

As part of these celebrations, the IMD hosted an Inter-school Painting, Poster, and Debate competition on 28th and 29th November 2024. The competition aimed to engage students in creative expression and critical thinking on important themes related to climate change, weather patterns, and the role of meteorology in everyday life.

Themes

• Debate Competition: "Technology has the potential to do more harm than good", encouraging students to critically assess the impact of technology on society and the environment.
• Poster Competition: "Good Practices to Mitigate Impact of Climate Change", encouraging students to explore and illustrate ways in which individuals and communities can contribute to reducing the effects of climate change.
• Painting Competition: "Any Weather Season", inviting participants to creatively express the diversity and beauty of different weather seasons.

The competition saw impressive participation, with over 60 students from 30 schools in the debate and about 350 students from 52 schools in the painting and poster categories.

• 2nd Position:

• 3rd Position:
  • Kanu Supriya Jha - Ahlcon International School, Mayur Vihar, Ph-1, Delhi
  • Sadhna Ramuka - Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh

The results for the Painting and Poster competitions are currently being finalized and will be announced soon.

The winners of the Debate Competition will be honored by Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during the 150th Foundation Day celebration. The IMD is proud to recognize the remarkable achievements of these students and looks forward to celebrating their success at this landmark event.

Through initiatives like these, the IMD continues to inspire young minds and foster a deeper understanding of meteorology, climate change, and the environment.
