About the Speaker:
Dr. Thamban Meloth is the Director of the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. Dr. Meloth has made pioneering contributions to polar and cryosphere studies in India and was instrumental in establishing India’s first state-of the-art Ice Core Laboratory at NCPOR. His research primarily focuses on climate variability and its impact on polar ice sheets and glaciers. He has undertaken multiple scientific expeditions to challenging and remote areas of Antarctica, Arctic, Himalayas and Southern Ocean. Dr. Meloth has been awarded many recognitions for his scientific contributions like the prestigious National Geoscience Award by the Government of India. He is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Norwegian Scientific Academy for Polar Research (NVP).
