On 14th September 2024, Regional Meteorological Centre, Colaba, Mumbai organised one day Stakeholders Workshop on Severe Weather and Meteorological Services over Maharashtra under the leadership and guidance of Dr. M. Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department at Cariappa auditorium, Colaba, Mumbai. This event is a part of celebration of 150 years of service to the nation by India Meteorological Department. Dr M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences as a Chief guest and Shri Bhushan Gagrani, IAS, Commissioner, Mumbai Corporation of Greater Mumbai and Prof. Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai as guests of honour along with Dr. M. Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dr. R. Krishnan, Director, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and Dr.,G, Pandithurai, Scientist G, IITM graced the occasion. Shri S.G. Kamble, Head, Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai was present as Chief Convenor of the event. Inaugural session: 1. Shri S. G. Kamble delivered welcome speech and welcomed all the dignitaries on the dais and eminent speakers and stakeholders from various authorities in this workshop. Dr. M. Mohapatra felicitated Dr M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Science, Bhushan Gagrani, IAS, Commissioner, Mumbai Corporation of Greater Mumbai and Prof. Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai. Shri S. G. Kamble felicitated Dr. M. Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, IMD Dr. R. Krishnan, Director, IITM and Dr. G. Pandithurai, Scientist G, IITM. Smt Shubhangi Bhute felicitated Shri S.G. Kamble, Head, Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai. 2. Dr. M. Mohapatra delivered keynote address on this occasion. He illustrated the objective of the workshop and shared the historical development of science of weather and climate in India. He informed that Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai completed 80 years of existence in this year. 3. Dr. R. Krishnan congratulated IMD for completion of 150 years of services to the nation. He thanked Dr. M. Mohapatra for giving an overview of development of IMD in those 150 years. He informed that today IITM is inaugurating Mumbai Radar Network with 4 ‘X’ band which is first of its kind in any city in India. 4. Prof Ravindra Kulkarni expressed his willingness to work in close association with IMD to study the various aspects of weather and climate. 5. Dr. M. Ravichandran publish a souvenir prepared by Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai especially for this occasion. This souvenir is composition of history of regional centre, Mumbai, memories of past and present officials and though provoking articles and poems. He congratulated IMD for completing 150 years in January 2025 and also RMC Mumbai for completing 80 years of service to the nation. He also explained the future of IMD under the Mission Mausam initiative. 6. Dr. M. Ravichandran inaugurated the Mumbai Radar Network. These are X band polarimetric Radars installed at Amity University, Panvel, Vidyavardhini College of Engineering and Technology, Vasai-Virar, D. J, Sanghvi College of Engineering, Vile Parle and Netivali water treatment plant, Kalyan- Dombivali. The inputs from these Radars available in integrated single mosaic on real time. 7. Smt Shubhangi Bhute, Sc. F from RMC Mumbai expressed vote of thanks on behalf of RMC Mumbai. The session was concluded with National anthem.
