About the Speaker:
AVM (Dr) Ajit Tyagi is Chairman of IDC Foundation, Patron India Water Foundation and Founder President of South Asian Meteorological Association. He has served as Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department (2008-2012), Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Meteorology) Indian Air Force (2005 2007) and Koteswaram Chair Professor with Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) from 2012 to 2015. He was Permanent Representative of India (2009-2013) with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and member of its Executive Council, He played important role in formulating Global Framework of Climate Services He has served as Member of the Governing Councils of SAARC Meteorological Research Centre Dhaka, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology Pune and National Atmospheric Research Laboratory Gadanki . He was President of Indian Meteorological Society for the period 2016-18. He has been member of the Scientific Committees of MoES, DST, ISRO, MBDA and WMO Dr Tyagi played key role in modernization of IMD and brought significant improvements in weather forecasting and warning of high impact weather events in the country. Under his leadership Agro Advisory Services were extended to 640 districts, Nowcast system was implemented during Commonwealth Games 2010 and Early Warning of Tropical Cyclones was significantly improved. He has been actively involved in the promotion of meteorological services in South Asian countries. His area of expertise includes Public Weather Services, Early Warning of Severe Weather, Aviation Meteorology and Climate Change AVM (Dr) Tyagi has been conferred with Vishistha Seva Medal by President of India for his distinguished services.
