About the Speaker:

Prof. B N Goswami did his PhD from PRL Ahmedabad. Soon afterhis Ph.D, Prof. Goswami started working on weather and climateprocesses at PRL. In 1978 Prof Goswami got an opportunity to do atwo-year Post Doctoral work with Prof. Jule Charney at the MIT,Cambridge, USA followed by 3 years at the NASA/GSFC, USAworking on the upcoming field of monsoon modeling. Returning towork in India in 1983, he worked at the IISc, Bangalore from 1985 to2006, becoming Professor and Chair of the Centre for Atmosphericand Oceanic Science (CAOS). Taking over the helm of the IndianInstitute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune in 2006 he transformed theInstitute to a world-class research organization. Professor Goswamiserved on many National and International Committees including theJoint Scientific Committee (JSC) of the World Climate ResearchProgram. He has been Visiting Research Faculty at the PrincetonUniversity and Maryland University. Prof. Goswami has beenMembers of many National and International Committees. For hisscientific achievements, Prof. Goswami received many Awards andHonors including Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 1995.
