Growth of Indian Seismology since its inception as IMD Seismology unit and Collaborative Research

Dr. O.P. Mishra is a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India (F.N.A.Sc.) for his pioneering workinvolving Applied Geophysics / Seismology / Disaster Risk Management having over 32-years ofexperience in different field of earth sciences and seismology and exploration Geophysics. Presently, he isworking with Ministry of Earth Sciences as Adviser / Scientist G & Director, National Centre for Seismology.He obtained M.Sc. Tech degree from IIT (ISM)-Dhanbad in Applied Geophysics; Ph.D.; D.Sc. fromGeodynamics Research Centre, Japan in Seismology; PGDMA from AIMA, New Delhi in FinanceManagement. Dr. Mishra worked with: IDRC-Canada in a joint venture project with CMPDIL, Coal Indiaduring 1992 - 1995; served Geological Survey of India for about 20-years (1995 – 2014). He worked withSAARC Disaster Management Centre, New Delhi as the Head / Director; He also worked at GRC-Japan asthe FOREIGN Visiting Guest Professor. He is recipient of several awards and Honors, including, VisitingProfessorship by JSPS-Japan in the year 2005; National Mineral Award-2008 for Disaster Risk Managementin Applied Geosciences by the Govt. of India; A.S. Arya Award-2014 by IIT-Roorkee, Govt. of India; AnniTalwani Gold Medal-2015 by Indian Geophysical Union. He has more than 200 research publications,including edited books/reports/special issues/ roadmaps on various themes of seismology, geophysics,interdisciplinary Earth sciences, DRR / in peered reviewed journals of national and international repute.
