About the Speaker:
Prof Sharma completed his Doctoral Degree in 1975 from IIT Bombay after completing his school and college education in Rajasthan. He was Head, Centre for Atmospheric Sciences (2007– 2010); Head, Student Counselling Service (2001 2007); President, Board for Student Welfare (2001– 2007); Vice-Chairman, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE 2003 2005) at IIT Delhi. The pioneering work of Prof Sharma is in global atmospheric modelling where he worked on a stretched-grid global Sharma model– the monsoon general circulation model (MGCM) under the guidance of Prof R Sadourny at LMD Paris. He was also member of some scientific and advisory committees, notable being: Member, Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) of National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), 2008– 2015; Member, Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) on Atmospheric Sciences, Dept. of Science and Technology, 1991– 1998; Member, Indian Delegation for Benchmarking of Supercomputers to USA and Japan, 1986
